Have you ever been to a Taco Cabana restaurant. This chain certainly doesn't fit the exclusive category of Taco Shop, but it was kind of an interesting restaurant to eat at.
I went to college (SDSU) in San Diego, CA, and (mid-1990s) there was a Taco Cabana at the southeast corner of El Cajon Blvd and College Ave (gmap). It was like an pseudo-upscale eating place for college students, though it was pretty cheap. They offered these 1/2 price coupons, which ended up being a great deal. Anyway, some friends worked at the campus photocopy service department. Since the coupon was such a great deal, we'd have these friends copy loads of these coupons and eat for 1/2 price a few nights a week.
I also spent some time in San Antonio, TX, after college. I was amazed to find a Taco Cabana there. Turns out, Taco Cabana started operations in San Antonio. Anyway, I'd go to Taco Cabana with my friends after drinking in downtown San Antonio. They had the best tasting coffee and breakfast tacos (like the eggs were cooked in 2 inches of butter or something).
